Well, first off, how good of you to acknowledge good service. So often people who deal with the public hear about what they are doing wrong or get complaints but rarely, if ever, do they hear what they do right. I'm sure that letter will be very much appreciated. Good for the staff at the Sondheim for being so accommodating. (Although a jeer within a cheer for them not heading down the aisle and reprimanding those rude theatregoers.)

Second, I had a similar experience with JERSEY BOYS. The worst culprit: my mother! I did the sushing. Ha-ha. I do believe this comes with the territory of jukebox musicals. On the one hand, it's wonderful that people are so engaged. On the other hand, they need to realize they are not sitting alone in their living rooms. (In defense of my mother, she was unaware that she was singing along to the songs and once told to quiet herself, she did - for the most part. Your rude singers seem to simply not care even after being called out on their bad behavior.)

What many people don't realize is that the people on stage can also hear those singers....and the chatters...and the cell phone users. I really give performers today a lot of credit for putting up with the endless stream of rudeness and entitlement that comes with modern theatre audiences. Really, public manners should really be a required class in grammar and secondary schools. Those who do not learn should be required to attend a performance with Patti Lupone on stage and then God help them! ;-)
