The Hammerstein Ballroom is contained within a building that has for years been called the Manhattan Center, which was the site of several great opera recordings including the legendary LA BOHEME with Victoria de los Angeles as Mimi, Jussie Bjoerling as Rodolfo, Robert Merrill as Marcello, Lucine Amara as Musetta, and Fernando Corena as Alcindoro.

I'm not sure if the part of the building that's now the "ballroom" was the specific site of the recordings. Anyone? Maybe ACT's Alcindoro knows?
