RHINEBECK WRITERS RETREAT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2014

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced that applications are open for the fourth summer of retreats for musical theatre writers. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides a writing team with a weeklong residency to work on their musical in a private home near Rhinebeck, New York. There will be eight one-week retreats offered between June 29 and August 31st. Applications are due February 15 and the submission fee is $20. The submitted musical can be at any stage of development, as long as it has not been published or licensed. Writers selected for this summer will pay nothing to participate and receive a $400 stipend. There are a limited number of travel grants up to $500 available for writers living outside of New York City.
A panel of experts who are members of the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat “Sounding Board” will help select participants. Past Rhinebeck writers include Stew and Heidi Rodewald, Family Album; Duncan Sheik and Kyle Jarrow, Noir; Laura Eason, Jenny Giering, and Sean Barry, Summerland; Itamar Moses and Gaby Alter, Nobody Loves You; Alex Timbers and Michael Friedman, Love’s Labour’s Lost; and Michael Kooman and Chris Dimond, recent Fred Ebb award winners with The Noteworthy of Howard Barnes.
Created in 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides a sanctuary for writers to do nothing but write their musicals in a bucolic setting in the heart of the Hudson Valley, serving 50 writers to date who have developed 24 musicals. All costs for the retreats are covered by contributions, including major support from The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund, The Dramatists Guild Fund, The Noël Coward Foundation, Stacey Mindich Productions; Rick Farrar and Jeff Zadroga; Amy Faxon; Michael A.
