Radcliffe's Next Project

In reply to: Martin McDonagh's THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, starring Daniel Radcliffe, directed by Michael Grandage, ... - Official_Press_Release 05:48 pm EST 01/16/14

I wish a playwright would write an original role for him. He would certainly be someone who would generate interest and box office; and, his 3 roles so far on Broadway (including the upcoming) are so different from one another that he seems to be quite versatile. Besides that, I have heard that he is both immensely hardworking and not at all the diva that some who've sold a whole lot fewer tickets are. I'd write a play for him in a heartbeat if I were a writer.

everything you say is true, but a new play needs a much longer commitment than these revivals. And little Dan's dance card is mighty full.

revivals have to go through rehearsals. Are new plays longer--i would guess only a week or more. He doesn't have to go through the workshops. And new plays don't have a longer run than revivals unless they extend and he can always leave at that point. i think the biggest challenge for a new play is learning new lines during the rehearsals and preview period, which doesn't happen for revivals.

It is technically true that he could simply swoop in and do a new play, but why would he want to do that? As is obvious, he's doing plays because he wants to, not because he needs to. I would think that he would insist on participating in the development process before signing on to an unknown property. Learning new lines is no more of a challenge for an actor that stopping the bleeding is for a surgeon: it's just what they do.

I suspect DR will eventually do a new play written for him, but I also suspect that he will not have a remote relationship with the play.
