NEWS: CSC'S "A MAN'S A MAN" CANCELS PERFORMANCE TONIGHT DUE TO ACTOR INJURY

Posted by: Official_Press_Release 01:05 pm EST 01/17/14

THIS EVENING’S PERFORMANCE OF
CLASSIC STAGE COMPANY’S
PRODUCTION OF
BERTOLT BRECHT’S
A MAN’S A MAN
CANCELLED DUE TO CAST INJURY

This evening’s performance of Classic Stage Company’s production of Bertolt Brecht’s A MAN’S A MAN has been cancelled due to an injury last night to cast member Bill Buell (Jeraiah Jip). Buell sustained a fractured ankle while off-stage early in the first act due to a mechanical malfunction involving a ballast weight for a garage door which is part of the show’s set design. As there is no understudy for the role, the remainder of last evening’s performance had to be cancelled as well as tonight’s performance while a replacement actor is found. CSC hopes to resume performances tomorrow. Ticket-holders should visit www.classicstage.org for updates or Classic Stage Company on Facebook.

A MAN’S A MAN is directed by Brian Kulick and features a new score and new songs by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik. This production continues CSC’s exploration of the works of Bertolt Brecht, which began in 2011 with the sold-out production of Galileo and was followed by last season’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle (on which Kulick and Sheik also collaborated). The cast features Justin Vivian Bond (Widow Begbick) are Jason Babinsky (Polly Baker), Gibson Frazier (Galy Gay), Martin Moran (Uriah Shelley), Steven Skybell (Jesse Mahoney), Stephen Spinella (Bloody Five), Ching Valdes-Aran (Mr. Wang) and Allan K. Washington (Ensemble). The official opening night is Thursday, January 30. A MAN’S A MAN will play a limited engagement through February 16.

In this early knockabout, anti-just-about-everything farce by Brecht, innocent dockworker Galy Gay in British Colonial India is rather unorthodoxly enlisted into Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, where he is “dismantled like a car” and then reassembled into the ultimate fighting machine.

Scenic design is by Paul Steinberg, costume design by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Matt Kraus.

A MAN’S A MAN will perform Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7pm; Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets start at $60 and are available starting Thursday, December 12 at 12pm at classicstage.org, by calling 212-352-3101 or 866-811-4111, or at the CSC Box Office at 136 East 13th Street between Third and Fourth Avenues.

... Mr Buells screams of pain went on and on and on ... the second announcement made from the stage was that an actor was injured and they would not continue.

After the first announcement - by someone very obviously NOT in the show - and stage management rushing about - a very wise NY theatregoer said 'Is this really happening? I mean, you know, this is Brecht. I don't know what to think.'

Hmmmmm. Showing off for his date?

Poor Bill Buell - I hope he's feeling better. It must have been horrific.
