It is technically true that he could simply swoop in and do a new play, but why would he want to do that? As is obvious, he's doing plays because he wants to, not because he needs to. I would think that he would insist on participating in the development process before signing on to an unknown property. Learning new lines is no more of a challenge for an actor that stopping the bleeding is for a surgeon: it's just what they do.

I suspect DR will eventually do a new play written for him, but I also suspect that he will not have a remote relationship with the play.
