Company One and ArtsEmerson collaborate to present the New England premiere of Jackie Sibblies Drury's play WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A PRESENTATION...about the little known genocide of the Herero of Namibia by German colonialists early in the twentieth century. According to the playwright, "The play is about whatever you think it is about." Performances through February 1st at the Black Box Theatre at The Emerson/Paramount Center, 559 Washington Street, Boston, MA.

Is it still a New England premiere if it debuted in Providence?

Saw the play in Los Angeles. It is quite the script.

And, yes, I can see where she might not want to pin down (for any audience member) what it's actually about. It's a play within a play setup (hence the title), and while the play they are, in fact, presenting is quite interesting, I found the best part of "We are Proud to Present..." to be its exploration of the interaction between the play being presented and the people who were presenting it.

Great piece. Highly recommended.
