Set failure opening night at Machinal

I touched on this downthread, but here's an article about it.

The motor that drove the set broke very early in the play. The show was almost cancelled, but stagehands and set builders in the audience (and from nearby theaters) came backstage to try to fix it. Failing that, they ended up being the manpower to move the set for that performance.

The audience, which had been given free rein at the now-open bar during the delay, gave the volunteers a standing ovation at the curtain call.
