I'm amazed that the Hotel Carter wasn't completely renovated and turned into an upscale hotel years ago. It's SO CLOSE to Times Square, my mind boggles at the rates they could get if the gave the face a thorough renovation (and cleaning). Yes, for some time that block of 43rd Street was the one really bad block left in the area, and there is still that SRO (or whatever it is) across the street from the Carter. But the block is definitely improving overall, and there's that new Weston just steps away. And of course, if the Carter were renovated, that would only help bring up the block faster.
