One has to have a childlike glow of optimism and adventure I think. The actual age and sex is not all that important. Like in a good production of You're a Good Man..., the fact that adults are playing roles isn't distracting if the they play it honestly. And the world of PP is fantastical anyway, not the "real world" of Nazified Austria.

My knowledge of teenage boy popstars being somewhat limited, I can't even guess whom they would cast.
