Wasn't the Mary Martin TV version of PP shot on a soundstage?

If they did it once, they can do it again.

It's a museum piece

to suggest that a modern production stage it in the same manner is just asking for trouble. It would look artificial, stilted and lifeless by today's standards.

I have to imagine they're already planning a unique new way to showcase the flying. If not, oh boy, get ready for even more snark than SOM provided.

If they're doing the production live on a soundstage, what unique/new ways could they really come up with?

Obviously if they were filming instead of going live, they could do all sorts of effects. But if the "gimmick" here is to do it live once again, I tend to think they're rather limited in what they can do in terms of the flying.

in memory of Russell Johnson, they could use a jet pack instead of wires. And that would have the salutary effect of drowning out any sub-par singing.

and if something goes wrong with the LIVE taping
(Justin Bieber gets arrested on the way to the studio)
since it's NBC, they can always run the Mary Martin
version in its place

Yes, it was shot on soundstages as opposed to the theatre where it played on Broadway.
