It's not excellent if it doesn't ring true to the public.

I don't understand what you mean when you say the ad is "excellent if stupid." Nor do I understand why you would think the general public is any less aware of how recently LES MIZ was on Broadway, or any less aware of the movie version, than "the folks who post here."

re excellent if stupid-the ad achieves what an ad seeks to achieve, but it does it in a way that is fundamentally stupid. That's not unusual-ads often get you excited about something that's not worth getting excited about. Hyping technology that's actually inferior is a frequent example.

re the public's awareness. Sorry to break the news to you, but the general public would flunk a test on the production history of Les Miz.

Theyr'e speaking to the people who buy tickets to Broadway shows and a high percentage of those probably know it was just on Broadway 5 years ago. They're also aware of the movie.

Thanks, KingSpeed. That's exactly what I meant.

Actually, were they to market to "the people who buy tickets to Broadway shows," this enterprise would collapse quickly. This is a show first and foremost for tourists. Tourists who could not name a show currently playing on Broadway if you offered them a free ticket to it. You are talking about apples; the producers are squeezing oranges.
