THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY'S JANUARY 2014 DEVELOPMENTAL READINGS SERIES PRESENTS THE PREMIERE OF TWO NEW MUSICALS "L O V E I N O U R L A N G U A G E" AND “S W I N G W I N G S” AT THE YORK THEATRE AT SAINT PETER’S OPEN TO THE PUBLIC The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director), and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, will present the premiere of two new musicals: Love in Our Language, with Book & Lyrics by Judy Goetz Sanger and Music by Howard Marren, and Swing Wings, with Book & Lyrics by William Schermerhorn and Music by Milton Delugg and Mary Ehlinger at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The readings are open to the public with a suggested donation of $5.00. The Developmental Reading Series presents some 40 readings and workshops of new musicals by emerging and established authors throughout the year. a vital part of the writing process. The series often serves as an incubator for shows to be considered for Mainstage productions, thus serving the York's unique mission of taking new musicals through the complete development process to full production. The January 2014 Developmental Reading Series schedule is: Thursday, January 23 at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Love in Our Language A Musical Play Adapted from "Love in Our Language," a book by Judy Goetz Sanger Book and Lyrics by Judy Goetz Sanger Music by Howard Marren Directed by Terry Berliner Music Direction by Lawrence Yurman The eight- member cast features Leah Horowitz, Joseph Kolinski, Justin Lawrence, Terry Layman, Gavin Lodge, Terry Palasz, Jonathan Todd Ross and Deborah Tranelli. Love In Our Language is a play with music, a personal view of two love stories, and of the subtleties of language between lovers in two cities; New York and London. Do they speak the same language? What do any of us understand when we fall in love? The world in which these lovers exist is like the climate in Harriet Friedlander's greenhouse -- needing to be "just so", for love to thrive. The luck of sharing a lifetime, with one person who understands you completely, is the greatest gift of all. * * * * * Friday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m. Swing Wings A New Musical Book and Lyrics by William Schermerhorn Music by Milton Delugg and Mary Ehlinger Directed by Randy Redd Music Direction by Adam Podd The seven-member cast features Will Burton, Liam Forde, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Johnny Kinnaird, Ian Lowe, Taylor Rathus and Haley Swindal. Swing Wings is based on the World War II experiences of songwriters Frank Loesser, Milton Delugg and the fresh-faced Army Air Corps musicians who created the era’s signature radio broadcasts. In a time of patriotic sacrifice, they forged a bond that could not be broken. The military marches to a beat; these boys made it swing.
