At Theatermania

The Broadway production of A Night With Janis Joplin, which has been playing since October, is set to end its run at the Lyceum Theatre this February. According to producers, the show, which stars Mary Bridget Davies as Joplin, will reopen at a to-be-announced venue in March. Joplin is moving to make room for the previously announced Broadway run of Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses.

I saw the play at Yale Rep. It was very well cast. It reminded me a little of Detroit -- with neighboring couples interacting -- but I like Joneses better. It's more accessible than Eno's other work but there is the usual strangeness. I wouldn't call it great but I found it entertaining. I really liked Parker Posey but I'm sure Marisa Tomei, who I think is playing her part, will be fine.

A solid, unremarkable work. I think I liked it a bit less than lowwriter but agree with his/her assessment: more accessible than previous Eno, some strangeness. There is craft, for sure. but rather unsatisfying.
I'm liked Posey as well. Not a big Tomei fan do like Toni Colette very much.

... if Joplin were to move to an Off-Bway venue in the same season it opened, would it still be eligible for Tony nominations? I assume it would given that it plays a minimum number of performances on Bway? Just curious..

I thought there used to be a rule that shows had to wait a certain amount of time before moving from a Broadway house and contract to an off Broadway house and contract. Now some shows seem to do it during intermission. What are the contractual implications of this?

I have never heard of any such rule, and I don't understand how it would operate. Whose contract would have this provision in it?

Assume Thom's referring to Equity contracts as opposed to Tonys eligibility

Yes I am referring to the union contracts. Sorry for the confusion.
