I would skip UTOPIA. While Shotgun is an admirable company, their efforts are largely amateurish, unfortunately.

If you're looking for a new, challenging, and well-done play, you must check out EVERY FIVE MINUTES at Magic Theater at Fort Mason Center. The theater is easily accessible by public transportation.

Also, I'd look into:
BAUER (San Francisco Playhouse)

TRIBES
ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST
(Both at Berkeley Rep)
VENUS IN FUR (A.C.T.)
WITTENBERG (Aurora Theater-next door to BRep)

Those are your best choices.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially the world premieres. Nice to have an endorsement of something with which I'm not familiar, and I'd enjoy seeing a show at the Magic or at SF Playhouse. Wittenberg looks interesting, too.

I have seen Tribes multiple times, as well as Venus in Fur. I guess I will have to wait for Shotgun's schedule to be posted online, and then I'll make my decisions.

Bill

Sorry to disagree with you but the first two productions of the three part Utopia were not amateurish. Both were excellent productions with a superb cast. Looking forward to the third part.
