tickets are always available to general public. Can be expensive but Goldstar always has tickets. Plenty of seats usually available either way.

Series tickets are sold to the public after subscribers get their seats and have an extra first-chance ticket purchasing period, so there are always some tickets put on sale to non-subscribers, but only certain shows put tickets on Goldstar, not every show, and for extremely popular shows like The Book of Mormon both subscribers and the general public had a horrible time getting tickets. If you are specifically planning to see Newsies, I don't expect the show to be a Book of Mormon-type hot ticket, but I wouldn't count on it being on Goldstar either (it might be, as the Orpheum is the biggest SHN theater, but that will depend on Bay Area ticket demand).

You may be, and probably are, correct about BOM, but I have never had a difficult time acquiring tickets to Best of Broadway shows in SF. And by ever, I am old, and so ever means ever.

Thanks everyone...

Maybe I can seize the day

btw..remember the movie. Ann-Margret was in it for 2 minutes. I am convinced her part was cut out...
Any info on that??

Thank you but why does this remind me of "You're likable enough,HIllary" ?
Actually, however, I AM pretty old. Only a few months and hours younger than Bernadette Peters and we all know what a doddering old thing she is. ;)

If you look 1/10th of the way she looks, you would be INCROYABLE!!

She looks amazing year after year after decade after century

Well, I guess I will take that as a compliment.
I mean I said I was OLD but I did not say I date back to the 18th century. :)

Believe me, Mormon was insane. Subscribers were slashed from 4 down to 2 additional tickets at the last minute, and the 3rd person for whom I had intended to get a ticket never did manage to see Mormon during the initial run. We usually can buy 6 or 8 extra tickets per show. But I wouldn't expect any problem getting a ticket to Newsies. Just don't count on Goldstar.

BOM, I have been told was insane. I guess Goldstar is does not always get SHN either. But, as you say, "Newsies" does not seem present the same sort of mania as BOM.

According to today's SFGate they are no longer calling it Best of Broadway. The new name has yet to be unveiled.

"The three shows, all currently running Broadway hits, join the previously announced "Newsies" in the subscription series formerly known as Best of Broadway."

As a subscriber, I thought they rebranded years ago. They stopped calling themselves Best of Broadway and emphasized "SHN". Maybe this was around 2005-2006 when they brought in shows like 'Rain' and tried to start a family series in conjunction with the main season? In recent years, they used other taglines like "Broadway Reframed." I thought it was audience members who kept calling it Best of Broadway.

The N in SHN stands for Nederlander, does it not?

i think some people criticize the pre-broadway shows and how they can be the "best". I'm disappointed that there aren't any pre-broadway coming up, but i couldn't think of a show that needs one.

The last Ship--Chicago
honeymoon in vegas--papermill
All that glitters--toronto
harmony--LA
King Kong--Melbourne
Bodyguard--London
Titanic--toronto

Houdini is the only musical that might need an out of town tryout that hasn't announced plans.

I'd call this an underwhleming season, but that's become par for the course for SHN.

considering what is touring

In reply to: re: SF--Best Of Broadway announced - dsikula 02:50 pm EST 02/06/14

its a pretty solid season. It has all three hit musicals (assuming Motown and Matilda recoup sometime) from the 2012/13 broadway season. Newsies is a hit from the previous season. I'd like to see more plays--but there aren't any touring except for B&Cellar. Last few years winners-Vanya... , Clybourne Park, Red, God of Carnage didn't tour. Only War Horse has in the last 5 years.

So the only other tours out there are: the new Phantom, Cinderella, Annie, Flashdance, Ghost, We Will Rock You. I'd like to see Flashdance, but i can understand why it isn't on the subscription.

I guess that isn't coming to SF. All the shows listed are at the Orpheum--so looks like GG and Curran will be dark for long stretches.
