I would occasionally watch her "talk shows" that aired on PBS way back in the day, where she interviewed celebrities. I thought they were fun. She came to San Francisco at the Post Street Theater (now SF Playhouse) about the same time. Must have been late '90s because I was living downtown then. A friend and I went. As I recall we wanted to leave less than half way through. I don't recall if she was just doing the same shtick as she did on her show and we'd already seen it, or if the continual skewering of audience members got old real quick. I know, you go to a DE show and that's what you get. But a little DE went a long way. Part of it too could have been it was a one "man" show (with a pianist). Her TV show had Madge, guests and other characters that added a little variety to the evening. I don't care to go to her shows today, but I do give her credit for still touring and hanging in there and entertaining those who enjoy it. So she must have an audience.
