Gerard Mortier, fames opera director and almost head of NY City Opera passed away

Posted by: PlayWiz 10:27 pm EDT 03/09/14

Sorry to hear of his passing as he had a great reputation as an opera director in Europe especially. Unfortunately, the people who hired him for City Opera really helped to hasten the demise NY's second opera company by promising him a huge budget which they weren't able to deliver, then met his demand that the company cancel a season. Plus the board of directors just mangled things in what seems to have been a "perfect storm".
