LOVE AND INFORMATION today

This was really lovely and thoughtful writing, with impressively creative direction.

A friend had warned me that the topic of the piece was "information overload," but I didn't find that at all accurate. If anything it's about how the recent additions to our means of connection still come up against the fundamental difficulty of understanding what goes on inside another person's head.

So there were sections devoted to getting (potentially) terrible information; sections about people whose ability to process information is damaged (neurologically or psychologically); how we mistakenly imagine that we understand much more than we really do, all based on tiny bits of information.

Ultimately Churcilly touches--lightly, and often with humor--on the philisophical problems of positivism, free will, the illusion of mathematical completeness, and, finally, how we make room in our logical lives for irrational love. It's a very uplifting show.

I will say that it's a fairly abstract show, with no plotline: instead it's a progression of variations on a theme, and you have to consider how they evolve as they're going by or you won't see the picture that she's building up.
