Yes- the black drop is on the very downstage edge of the stage. You (should) never see it, but half rises from the floor, and the other half lowers from the ceiling, VERY quickly. The first few cues you could hear it, and then at one point, it started raising/lowering before the blackout cue had finished. As it comes down (which takes about 1-2 seconds), I assume the back wall comes up, and then the stage is dimly lit so the crew can switch out the set pieces. We know it is dimly lit because another time, the bottom edge of the front black drop came up too far, so we could see the light at the bottom. And another time, the two black halves didn't go together completely. So again- not a technically perfect show, and you might say it ruined that illusion of "how did they do it?" Because the first time I saw the show, I couldn't figure it out either. But it was certainly cool to see.
