"Buried Child," by Sam Shepard, was first staged in San Francisco in 1978, and later that year in New York. It won the Pulitzer the following year. It was revived on Broadway in 1996 when it was nominated for a Tony for Best Play.

Athol Fugard's "Blood Knot" had it's first New York production in 1964 and was nominated for a Tony more than 20 years later when it received its first Broadway production.
