About ten years ago, I noticed a dvd of HALF A SIXPENCE at my local Best Buy. Even though I had very little interest in it, the price was right, and I bought it. Now, for ten years the unopened disc languished on a shelf in my library. All I knew for sure was that the musical had a modest Broadway success, that Tommy Steele was pretty much unbearable and that this movie, a miserable flop, was the final nail in the coffin of George Sidney's career. Well, low and behold, boredom overwhelmed me, and I opened the dusty package this past weekend. A shocking delight, chock full of lovely production values, expert choreography, hummable music and storytelling charm. Tommy Steele was stellar. Now, I am sure I am in the minority, and I doubt many of you have seen it, but if you are feeling adventurous and are inn the mood to kick up your heels, this could be it. buzzie in spats
