Olivier Awards... what accounts for their weird category practices?

I find it odd, for example, that they have Best New Play and Best Comedy... and then Best New Musical (comedy and drama lumped together). Also very odd that there's only one category for directing, Best Director, and directors of plays are up against directors of musicals. But then they, logically, have Best Revival of a Play and Best Revival of a Musical (i would have expected something weirder). And they have Best Actor/Actress/Supporting Actor/Actress in a play, which they don't say "In a Play" for, but then for a musical, they do ad "In a Musical"... and they have Best Actor/Actress in a Musical, but they lump the supporting into one category "Best Supporting Performance in A Musical" so the male and female supporting actors have to compete against each other. Do they just have a lack of respect for musicals... calling it "Best Actor" when it's a play but qualifying "Best Actor in a Musical" and not giving the supporting actors their due in a musical? Then there's also this category called Outstanding Achievement in Music... where apparently the composers and lyricists of musicals are nominated, but also this year The Orchestra of Merrily We Roll Along was nominated (quite odd since the orchestra was once of the many lacking things in that production). What does that even mean?! And I guess that also means that the Book Writers are not eligible for any award (except if they are included in the Best Musical category nominees, but that hardly seems fair) VERY odd, and silly (and in many cases quite unfair), in my opinion.
