It seems like by the late 1960s/early 1970s, with successful musicals running several seasons, the procedure was to send out a national company (with members of the OBC or else at least one A-list name) plus a bus-and-truck tour within a year afterward. It is possible, then, that the national company of Pippin just didn't gel for whatever reason (loss of star?) but plans went ahead anyway for the bus-and-truck?
