It may be that the treatment is sedate, or it may be that for this trailer at least, they're choosing to use less "angry" material, thinking that a whole trailer of people screaming with rage might turn off the potential audience. This is just a thought. The point of a trailer for a film is to get people into the theater, and the thinking here may be that the hardcore "Normal Heart" audience doesn't need to be sold on the show whereas a broader mainstream audience is going to be attracted by Julia Roberts and a love story rather than the angry political stuff.
