In SF, most tours on the SHN subscription series are 4 weeks. I recall some discussion a couple of years ago on the West Coast board that the reason that our tours had been so crappy (that year) was that SHN was demanding 4 weeks and most tours weren't willing to book that long of an engagement. (I'm unfamiliar with the way these agreements work and don't recall if it was their decision because they couldn't sell enough seats, if it was SHN's that they weren't willing to offer a large enough guarantee, or some combination of factors). That said, the current season is pretty good and next year's isn't bad. (Although I REALLY don't need another tour of Phantom - restaged or not!) And they're 4 weeks. Aside from the subscription shows, other tour bookings in their theaters range from 1 week to over a month. So - yes, there are factors besides population that factor into the bookings. (Historical figures/cultural habits, tourist popularity, theater availability/competition, and even climate) Mark
