I don't think the "tendency" you think you've noticed here is accurate (and the idea folks here don't criticize music "in value judgment terms" is pretty comical) but be that as it may, I am curious what it is you think makes music "good" or "bad." My guess is it has something to do with the particular training you received.

There are a lot of crafts involved in making theatre, especially musical theatre, and craft people often fall in the trap of evaluating what they know in terms of their craft (be in music, dance, singing, acting, directing or whatever) on its own bottom. This is invariably flawed, because it doesn't matter a whit. It is missing the forest for the trees. That doesn't mean you shouldn't decide if you like something or not based on tunes, harmonic progressions, instrumentation and so on, but to the audience-and that's the only thing that matters ultimately-that's all irrelevant. What you are doing is confusing what you know about craft with what that craft is in the service of. The goal-the only goal-is for everything about a show to resonate. So if you think that a song that you consider bad but memorable is somehow lethal, then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of just about everything related to the theatre.
