Hit song, different lyrics

Posted by: simbo 04:54 pm EDT 03/11/14

Idle thoughts this morning about "La Cage Aux Folles" and "Evita" - both have their hit song performed early in the show, but with a different set of lyrics and a different arrangement ("La Cage" has "We Are What We Are" which is a jazzed up "I am what I am" with lesser lyrics, "Evita" has "Oh What a Circus" which is a more spanish-sounding "Don't Cry for Me Argentina").

Is this a weird oddity of these two shows, or was this sort of preview-reprise (pre-prise?) something that shows up in other shows too that I haven't thought of yet?
