Speaking from my limited experienced (and being a high school theater-goer at the time in Los Angeles), the LA CLO would usually get the national tour with the key star or a star-level replacement. For example, we had COMPANY with George Chakiris and Elaine Stritch (as well as a few other originals but I am not researching this post, only going from memory). APPLAUSE with Lauren Bacall, Penny Fuller and Don Chastain. NO, NO NANETTE with June Allyson, Dennis Day and Judy Canova. We had Irene with Debbie Reynolds and CHICAGO with Chita, Gwen and Jerry Orbach. PIPPIN played in the late 70s with Michael Rupert as Pippin. When I was in college in Indiana I did see the PIPPIN bus-and-truck with Barry Williams (and Dortha Duckworth) and I do remember being impressed with Williams' performance. I also saw SEESAW with John Raitt and Liz Torres and DON JUAN IN HELL with Myrna Loy (who was in her early 70s by then), Kurt Kaszner, Edward Mulhare and Ricardo Montalban.
