And my god, as a Weill fan, how could I forget lady In The Dark? We are teased, for most of the show, with the recurrence of the opening phrases of "My Ship," but since Liza can't remember the song, we don't get it fully until the final scene (twice - in the flashback and in the final office scene). Also, Bea Arthur did something similar (and quite crafty) in her 2002 Broadway show. Early on, she kept starting to sing a song that went "Soon, we'll be without the moon..." but then she'd stop. In hearing this, I kept getting very frustrated - because I knew I knew the song in question, but couldn't place it. Later, she did the song from the beginning, and we discover that she had been singing the BRIDGE of Berlin's famous "Let's Face The Music And Dance." Very clever...;-) NOW - some trivia for all you true Bea Arthur fans - can you make 2 different connections between moments on her long-running TV shows and the plot or characters of Lady In The Dark??? ;-) (One of these will probably be much easier than the other. There is also another song by another composer involved in one of these.)
