Have you seen it yet? I did, in DC. If that's truly the frontrunner, it's a sad year for musicals, IMO

I totally agree. I just saw it last night.

YIKES. This is from the same team who brought us next to normal? (Which I loved!)

The music was terrible (the lyrics at times made me laugh-for the wrong reasons), and the choreography was horrible (it looked like a high school production), and while I thought there were moments where the actors gave glimmers of good performances, I was not impressed with Idina Menzel (whose constant shouting and use of Wicked-like mannerisms got old really fast) or LaChanze (someone tell me what is so special about her-I've seen her in a number of shows and never gotten her 'it' factor). Jenn Collela shines with the very small amount of time and material she's given (funny I kept wondering how the show might have been with her in the lead). Anthony Rapp was pretty good.

However, the material is just not that good. (And the set and lighting reminded me of next to normal-as Brantley says-don't remind the audience what they're missing.)

She's been miscast so often in parts where she doesn't get to show what she can really do ( "Lucky Guy"? "Chaplin"? ).

Ann, if you go over to Broadway World posters who saw the show in DC detail some of the changes. The show got a mixed reception in DC so this is not surprising.

Ann, I don't always trust what's said on Broadway World but some of the posts get pretty specific about the changes so they sound reliable. And the changes sound like they are helping the show.
