Certainly playing in a high school pit would not potentially be anything like getting to watch professionals at work. But if you don't think you could find anything exciting or edifying in the experience, that's fine. Hey - I'm sure some people would love to be backstage during a show so they could see what that would is like, whether they have a practical interest in stagecraft or not. Or to sit with the sound engineer, or the lighting board op, etc. Who's to say people might not be curious enough about what being in the orchestra pit during a professional show is really about? No, not everyone would be, sure. But I think it's a cool idea to invite someone in to that world for an evening - and I'm not saying that just because I'm a musician. ;-)
