Lot of emphasis on being a prostitute which is as you point out pretty much a non-issue until an event makes her ashamed of who she is. Neither Eliza nor Vivian seek a man to get them out of their respective lives, only a situation to better their current situations. In each case the male knowingly decides to transform the woman into something she is not but that he believes she has the talent and inner resources to become. In both stories the pairs somewhat reluctantly fall in love. In Sweet Charity, Charity deceives Oscar to get her out of the life she is living. Although he dies work a bit on her self esteem, he thinks she is perfect just the way she is until he finds out what she is and what she does for a living. He tries to accept that but ultimately cannot. Charity is left alone in her own life. One can determine whether she will be looking for a new man or learn to accept her life on its own terms. I think Riedel called this correctly.
