A receptive audience turned out in tonight's rain for the delightful Jim Brochu's anecdote and song-filled trip down memory lane. This dynamic actor/singer, who in recent years has graced New York City stages in THE BIG VOICE: GOD OR MERMAN, ZERO HOUR, and revivals of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER (St. Clements) and ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT (York), regales us with stories about famous "character men" like David Burns, Jack Gilford, Mostel, Gleason and others, and provides amusing and thoughtful observations through the prism of his personal acquaintance or association with them. There is plenty of material for a show much longer than this one act 90 minute piece, but Brochu (writer and performer) has distilled it down to a captivating recollection of his NY theatre experiences while growing up a kid from Brooklyn. Projections, mostly in black and white, evoke many of the places and people Brochu describes. Brochu is accompanied on stage by pianist Carl Haan. Tonight's performance was followed by a thirty minute onstage discussion with Brochu, Peter Filichia, Sondra Lee and Leroy Reams.
