| Hello, My daughter and I have planned a NYC theatre trip for the end of April. We have our air paid, (great deal but not refundable). We haven't paid anything for accommodation but we have got tix to 6 great shows - Cabaret, Kinky Boots, Pippin, Hedwig, If/Then and Lady Day. Unfortunately I ended up with a very unexpected and huge vet bill this week and I'm wondering if it's wise to go on this trip with this massive new debt. Does anyone know what the odds would be of my re-selling these tickets successfully? I've looked at Stubhub and they have a huge amount available but crazy prices - I really only want to get my money back. I'm trying to make a decision based on the odds of being able to re-sell. If I can't - I may as well just go on the trip, live with the debt I incur and enjoy the shows. My desire to go is great - but I have a nasty feeling in my gut that tells me that it isn't financially wise to go with all the other stuff I have to deal with. Also, the Cabaret tickets I need to pick up at the box office with my credit card - not sure how I'd be able to see those anyway. Sigh. Help? | |

| I would be surprised if you couldn't get exchanges for most if not all of those shows. You're talking about a date over a month away; they will be able to sell the ticket to someone else. And if you're exchanging, they still get your money. | |

| We have decided to go. We can't imagine watching the Tony Awards without a dog in the hunt, (or a show or 2 to cheer for). I'll have to do some creative accounting, that's for sure. If another costly life event happens, there will be no question - I'll have to cancel - and I'll check here before anywhere else to see if anyone wants the tix. My cat is going to be fine - emergency abdominal surgery - she swallowed a foam ear plug - caused an obstruction. $2500 that I didn't have sitting around, waiting to be spent.....you know how it is. I can't thank you enough for the advice, concern and good thoughts. | |

| I had a cat who did the same thing!! It was $1,800 to keep him in intensive care for a week because the damned ear plug wasn't showing up on the scans. As I was carrying him into the surgery for the operation he realized what was up and made this enormous sound and puked the earplug out of his system shooting it about 10 feet away. The vet and assistants were besides themselves with laughter. He was never a very affectionate cat until that hospital stay, afterwards we were inseparable, so that will perhaps be the upside to your high fees -- animals always know when you have sacrificed for them when they are in the hospital and they repay you with more kindness once they are back home. | |

| I hope your pet is ok. For the air, you can usually get credit for future flight minus a $100-200 per ticket fee. So if you paid well above that fee, you might wAnt to get credit which is usually good for a year. Another thing is to maybe pick a date in August when all the shows are playing and try to switch your tickets. Maybe you will have more money to go on the trip. I doubt that any of the shows you picked will close early where you might get a full refund in April much less august. | |

| You can also try selling them on this site-- via the Shoppin' tab above. I'm sure some people would be interested. Otherwise there's always Craigslist too. I know that's better for local sales but it's still a valid option. | |

| I think 4 of your 6 shows are through Telecharge (HEDWIG, KINKY BOOTS, LADY DAY..., & PIPPIN). Maybe you can call their customer service and explain that your trip has been canceled, and ask if you can possibly get a refund on these four shows. They can always say no -- but if you're nice and polite, and Telecharge being a decent organization, it seems worth asking. Roundabout probably won't help you on CABARET, but you can call them too. And I am sure Ticketmaster will laugh their asses off at you if you try to ask for a refund on IF/THEN. | |
