A few thoughts on IF/THEN last night... No spoilers

Posted by: UWS_JIM 04:47 pm EDT 03/14/14

I really loved the show but amongst the group of strangers chatting away amongst themselves with me I was about the only one. I think this is about the best score I have heard in a new show for a while but others used the words bland and adequate. This isn't a please everyone show, it requires concentration for a start, if you miss two minutes in a bathroom break you could be seriously lost in the plot.

This is a very very good vehicle for Idina's talents and she is just stunning but both Anthony Rapp and LaChanze absolutely shine too. I was very into the stories and left with tears in my eyes completely blown away by the emotion. The set is absolutely beautiful and suits the show, I will be another to say it is very remain cent of Next to Normal but this is a much more advanced incarnation.

Having read reviews of the earlier Washington run I can see they have made changes such as no longer color coding the stories as red and blue and some subplots are now gone such as a character in hospital.

One last thing, I wondered if Anthony Rapp's character should have been the focus, he really lead the most different life in each of the stories....
