I applaud her for that. The play, at least as presented in the film, is an almost total dud, and I don't think this owes to anything other than the material itself.

I did not realize Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? had not already established Sandy on screen by the time of Any Wednesday's release. Thank you for pointing that out.

I could picture Barbara Cook in clothing similar to that worn by Fonda in the film, I think because I became aware of the Broadway world at that time and must have seen photos of her in costume. She, like Sandy, probably brought a quality to the role that gave it an edge it did not deserve.

The only person I could picture starring in it successfully when I watched the film was Goldie Hawn. She had not yet become famous, though, and even she would have had her work cut out for her.
