THE TRIBUTE ARTIST Last Night

Posted by: sergius 09:17 am EDT 03/15/14

Sweetly subversive, THE TRIBUTE ARTIST is, unsurprisingly, funny and smart. Busch is a pro at these sorts of dizzy boulevard comedies with a twist (well, several). It takes a while for the pieces to set into place, but once they do, the gender (and misgender) mayhem you came for is spinning brightly. Busch is really a treasure. It's always a treat to see him ricochet from one old movie queen--the broader (pun intended) the better-- to the next. And while he's an expectably ace physical comedian, the play is well turned too. Unfortunately, Busch may be a dying breed--RuPaul's Drag Race this ain't--but there's still plenty of lift in those heals.
