Is it important for Little Mary to resemble Jeanette McDonald, I wonder? (possible spoilers) ...

Our Little Mary in this production is Sarah Ziegler, and she's a blonde, sporting ENORMOUS sausage curls pulled into pigtails that frame her face, with a big pink bow on her head.

My jaw hit the floor with a thud when she flounced out for her first entrance. Curly McDimple, maybe. Litlle Mary? Oy.

She looked something like a Victorian porcelain doll, I kept thinking.

Like something out of something Polly Pen may have written.

Hmmm.

Savannah Frazier as (Naughty) Nancy steals the show. She looks something like a cross between a young Stockard Channing & Melissa Errico & Rachael Bay Jones, depending on what angle you catch her from. And her comic timing and her singing are terrific!

Wish the director hadn''t chosen to camp it up so much. I have a feeling that if they'd played it straight, as written, it all might have come off much funnier.
