"Bullets" -- Friday night

Posted by: ptownguy 01:05 pm EDT 03/15/14

It's been 20 years since the movie and I don't really remember much aside from "Don't Speak" and the overall storyline. I thought the show was entertaining and has potential. That being said, it's an early preview and I'm sure they are still tinkering with details.
There are a lot of sets and dancing although I was not impressed with the choreography. Nonetheless the show works better as a whole than Ms. Stroman's last effort "Big Fish." As previous posts have said -- it really needs a "big" number.
I don't really think it's fair to judge the performers just yet but I was very impressed with Betsy Wolfe -- would buy the soundtrack just for her songs. Karen Ziemba was good but doesn't have much to do. Marin is in good voice and I also liked Zach Braff -- at times he reminded me a bit of Woody. The rest of the cast is also strong.
The one issue I have is the ending number. As Tommy Tune sang in the finale of Seasaw --"Wait, we need a bigger finish!" The "Banana" song just doesn't work. They need to change it and do something bigger or maybe just end it with Zack and Betsy getting back together. But a big finish would be better.
Right now, I would give it just a qualified good. Will be interesting to see what they do in the coming weeks. It could become "very good."

RE "As Tommy Tune sang in the finale of Seasaw --"Wait, we need a bigger finish!": 1) He didn't sing that line, he spoke it; 2) It wasn't in the finale; 3) The musical is SEESAW.

Having not seen BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, I cannot attest to the accuracy of your comments about it, though I will note that if its songs are recorded, it'll be an original Broadway cast recording and not a soundtrack.
