I don't know if this is off-topic or not, but our own Bruce Kimmel (author, actor, director, record producer) is signing tomorrow at the Paperback Collectors Show and Sale at the Glendale Civic Auditorium.
Other writers attending with some connection to theatre include:
Peter Beagle, whose novel A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE was the basis for an underrated musical, and whose classic, THE LAST UNICORN, has also been adapted for the stage
Ann Bannon, whose BEEBO BRINKER CHRONICLES were adapted for off-Broadway a few years ago--produced by Lily Tomlinson, if I remember rightly
Harlan Ellison, whose short stories were the basis for a play, STALKING THE NIGHTMARE by Robert Armin
William F. Nolan, who has written a play, DASH, on the life of Dashiell Hammett
Tim Powers, whose early novel, EPITAPH IN RUST, features a runaway in distant future LA who joins a theatrical troupe
And shameless plug for my spouse, Harry Turtledove, who has written an alternate history novel, RULED BRITANNIA, with Shakespeare and Lope de Vega as POV characters. Also a short story, inspired by our dramaturg daughter's Stoppard obsession, in which Will S. attends a production of ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD.
There are over fifty authors attending. Check the website for full list and signing times.
The show is open from 9 to 4, with a $5 admission charge.
The show itself has lots of dealers. While none of them specializes in dramatic literature, I usually find a few things theatre-related, plays and playbills, old Theatre Worlds, etc. But if you want a chance to meet some cool authors and dig through boxes and shelves of books, it's a lot of fun.
