Hattie Morohan - DOLL'S HOUSE at BAM

Posted by: SouthernBway 02:29 pm EDT 03/15/14

I was lucky to see this genius production twice in one week - from the front row and last row of the orchestra. I was equally blown away each time.

Seeing that set spin - with the gorgeous, haunting music playing - and those dynamic actors = theatrical heaven.

And Hattie Morohan - she is truly an artist to be reckoned with. I plan to travel to the ends of the earth to see all her performances.

Even in the short 9 minute film NORA - on YouTube - she's beyond brilliant.

Hope everyone else who saw it enjoyed it as I did.

I also enjoyed this production with a superb company (Ms. Morahan in particular), excellent new English-language version, and remarkable set. That said, I was somewhat confused about the time period in which the action unfolded. Somewhat modern furnishings and electric lamps and wall sconces suggested an era other than the original. Costumes were clearly period but which period I couldn't fathom.

Regardless, well worth seeing.

Specifically the 3rd row? I haven't sat up there at BAM's Harvey Theater before...

thanks

Even toward the front, you're on the cusp of seeing actors' facial expressions or not, imo. I didnt see DH.

Oh, I would disagree. I've seen many BAM shows from the Gallery, and always been pleased. In the most literal terms, the Gallery is comparable to the Mezzanine at the Rodgers, with the Harvey's orchestra seating rising on a sharp incline.

It's a bit high up, but the theatre is also quite intimate. As long as your vision is up to speed, those are great seats, and generally a *tremendous* value.

The one thing to bear in mind is that they are on stool-type-chairs, which might be a bit awkward, and can also add to a sense of vertigo.

as they usually say. But it is true. I love this production and many people who are savvy theatergoers have never heard of it....I know it is Brooklyn but still....
