"Barrymore" on PBS is the best transfer from play to film I have seen in a long time

Posted by: DivaDayton 05:11 pm EDT 03/15/14

Finding myself with an afternoon off, I finally sat down and went to my PBS station on my ROKU
player and watched the filmed version of the one
person show starring Christopher Plummer.
I, of course, was expecting to be blown away and
thoroughly entertained by Christopher Plummer, as I was, but I was not expecting the same with the production values. It was incredibly inventive and cinematic in the way they wove film, black and white shots, glimpses of him backstage and even the outline of his offstage partner, the prompter. It is the first time in awhile I have seen a production of a play filmed that might rival the excitement of seeing it live in the theatre. Would love to hear from anyone who saw both and their opinions. If you have a chance to see this, I highly rec it.
