About Hedwig's 7-performance schedule

Posted by: barna99 09:47 pm EDT 03/15/14

I just realized that Hedwig regular schedule is W-F at 8pm and then four performances on the weekend (mat and evening both days). Isn't that more vocally punishing that just doing M-Sat (2 on Sat). Would anyone be buying Tix for Sunday night? His voice should be in tatters by Sunday night....

On another related topic, I tried to buy tix with a discount but the selection was so poor that I decided not to buy and just wait.

It's great for the performers and stage crew who will have their Monday evenings, Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinees and Saturday matinees free to see a show. Must be tough for performers to hardly ever be able to go out with their friends to see a show since most shows unfortunately play the exact same schedule.

And it's great for people who can now see two shows in one night - perhaps The Realistic Joneses at Saturday 8pm, and Hedwig at Saturday 10pm.

I can see both ways. Having two complete days of vocal rest must be good, too.

I can't imagine that a father of two young children gets much vocal rest. I wonder if the idea is that NPH will get two full days with his family and will allow them to go away for the "weekend" and do stuff with their kids.

I know family comes first... but this whole show is happening for him because he wants to do it. And as someone with a relatively weak vocal instrument as it is (by Broadway standards) I think he's pushing it a bit for the people buying tickets. And it's only 1 more show in a row than normal shows, and it's not the first to do it, but he has to speak and sing for the entire show, and the songs are not all easy on the voice. Risky.
