I would recommend checking on the cast album of Caroline. Maybe you'll see what I see in it. I think the music is incredible and I think the lyrics are great. One of the things I love about them is that they don't sound like typical musical theater lyrics - they sound like a sometimes-lyrical play put to music. They don't always rhyme but I never listen and think about it because they seem to fit so perfectly. And when it does rhyme (which is actually very often), the places that Kushner (and Tesori) find for a rhyme, in the sounds of the words and the placement on the music, is incredible and interesting. And also, as a play, conceptually, and plot and character and theme and tone-wise, I love it and find it to be that all-too-thrown-around "b" word... brilliant.
