Gunshots in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY?

Posted by: TelevisionGuy 10:49 am EDT 03/17/14

If there are gunshots, can you please advise as to exactly when they occur -- and if they're cartoonish sound effects or the "real deal" (out of the gun)?

Also, please note SPOILERS in your response should you think it gives something away.

Possible spoiler? Very first person on stage shoots a machine gun. Saw the third preview - may not be there now.

As someone who is very gunfire phobic, I have to say that I did not find the gunfire to be a problem at all. There is really quite a lot of it, but it is all prerecorded and in many cases (during the dance numbers), the gunfire it mimed to percussion. None of it is too loud or even much of a surprise.

-spoilers-

Probably the loudest examples are all very clearly signaled. In each of the acts, there is gunfire at the end of the "Up the Lazy River" scenes (again, clearly signaled). There is also a shoot out during the opening night performance at the end of the show, but it is all clearly indicated.

-end spoilers-

I actually found the gunfire in Gentleman's Guide to be a bit louder/more surprising than it was in Bullets. And Gentleman's Guide was also pretty mild. It seemed clear that the goal was not to put off the audience, which I appreciated.

There are gunshots, and while not cartoonish, they also did not come across as "the real deal" either. Bullets Over Broadway is a musical comedy and the gunshots do not take the audeince out of the musical or the comedy.

A lot of machine gun fire (pre-recorded)

And quite a bit of single gunshot fire (I'm pretty sure it's pre-recorded, but loud enough to be startling)

Is there a dance with gunshots?

Seems like something Stroman might do.

Not that I remember... all I remember are the gunshots (spoiler alert) during a fairly elaborate and highly choreographed scene involving a huge rotating set and actors running all over the place.

But no, no gunshots worked into choreography a la the walkers in The Producers or the washboards in Crazy For You.
