I think "It All Fades Away" is an extraordinary song that reminds me of some of Paul Simon's best work. It is a deceptively simple song that I find very romantic and moving. My only problem with it is that it almost overshadows Francesca's final song, "Always Better," which ends the show and which I think is only an OK song musically (though I think its lyrics are very good). Like you, I think the end of the show is strong, and don't think it should have ended earlier. Unlike some others who have posted, I like the sequence that goes through the years of the children growing up, which is beautifully staged and is accompanied by the stirring gospel number "When I'm Gone," strongly sung by Charlie (the neighbor) and Bud (the husband).
