Did anyone see Faust by Randy Newman in an earlier version?

Posted by: lowwriter 11:58 am EDT 03/17/14

I saw that the tickets left for the City Center concert are running $110-$150.

Has anyone seen the show in an earlier version? If so do you recommend it?

I saw the Goodman production about 20 years ago with Ken Page, David Garrison, Kurt Deutsch, and Sherie Rene Scott. I enjoyed it. I liked the score as performed in the show -- I recall Glory Train being particularly rousing and Gainesville being a beautiful ballad. The studio cast recording is very disappointing with all the numbers being performed in a non-theatrical way by Newman and other pop singers.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't consider a 1-night only concert performance of Faust a must-see. $110 is too much IMO. I would gamble on discounted tickets being available as the event draws nearer.

The big hit from this show is, of course, "Feels like Home". I know Bonnie Raitt sang it on the FAUST CD but it was also recorded by the likes of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Josh Groban.

For those who saw a production of FAUST, did this song play as well in the context of the show?
