I spent 15 months in a national tour, and as others have said in this thread, it can vary greatly.

My company had a pretty good number of replacements that kept the show ever-changing and ever-different. There were also countless little backstage traditions and "moments" that help break up the monotony. Those little moments of connection among the cast/ crew keep the magic alive.

Ultimately, though, it is pretty similar to any other job. There are days you love your job, and relish every moment. There are also days when you would rather be at home watching TV. For me, though, the thrill of hearing the downbeat of the orchestra snaps you in to perspective and makes you grateful for your job.
