Good and bad are subjective and not necessarily motivators in seeing a production. IMO MAMMA MIA isn't a good show but even I must admit that it strikes a chord with audiences and I'd recommend it to any bridal party looking for a fun night out (or split the group: maids of honor to MAMMIA MIA and best men to JERSEY BOYS!)

What I want from a critic is critical analysis of a work. Perhaps what is needed is a "review" on opening night and another "critique" later in the run, not to entice people to buy tickets but to educate the public on why this piece or that is effective, important, entertaining, whatever.

I want a person who reviews for the theatre to be educated in the art form and instructive but not necessarily a snob nor jaded. Although it's nice to hear why so and so does a good job with a role or that the set is nice, I care more about why the piece works or not. I want analysis and how a piece fits into the pantheon of stage plays or musicals. I can make up my own mind to see a show based on my mood or tastes. I don't need a reviewer to tell me more than the storyline (which, as the other poster stated, I can get from multiple sources.)
